Often, when we talk about the foot fetish subject, we have a tendency towards getting pretty hetero. Researchers from the Department of Sociology, Indiana University have conducted one of the most extensive studies on gay foot fetish ever. The study aimed at the effects of sexual preference on fetishism, with a specificity being gay men (sexual preference) and eroticized feet (fetish). Here is a quick run down on some of their findings:

• Gay men find a wide range of feet and footwear arousing.
• The types of interest (in feet or footwear) tend to be associated with particular types of men. The interests can change over time.
• Arousal is influenced by both sensual and symbolic elements of foot fetish.
• Symbolically, masculinity or ‘manliness’ in feet or footwear was a strong factor in predicting arousal.
• Respondents usually incorporated their foot fetish into stable relationships.

As one of the earliest studies on the subject, it is important to look at what the researchers are aiming at. The study is looking at the normalcy of the fetish practices, as compared to heterosexual foot fetishists, and is also looking at the normalcy of these foot fetishists within the gay community. In other words, the subjects – Homosexuals with a foot fetish – are treated as the other to heterosexuals within the sexual norm. While it is excellent that this study brings homosexual foot fetish issues into the mainstream, one must wonder why the ‘otherness’ is dominant. Hopefully there will be more studies of this kind, studies that do not lend a negative bent to this subculture.

The Delhi High Court has ruled to legalize homosexuality. That’s right, up until very recently it was not only illegal to practice gay foot sex, but it was illegal to be homosexual at all.
